CATA offers mobile payment options through the MassDOT BusPlus app. You can purchase single rides, day passes, monthly passes, and school passes all from your phone!

CATA continues to accept cash (exact fare required) or CharlieCard stored value on all regular CATA buses and seasonal services. CATA is able to accept cash on all Dial-A-Ride and ADA van service. CATA On Demand fares are paid through the CATA On Demand app.

Student Pass Options

November 29, 2024 through December 31, 2025, there will be no charge on the CATA buses and vans (CATA On Demand will still charge a fare)

CATA is offering the following options for Student Bus Passes for the 2024-2025 School Year. Passes are available for purchase at GHS, online, or through the mail.

Annual Pass – $200 prepaid bus pass valid on all CATA routes (except the Mall Bus), valid until August 31, 2025

Fall Semester Pass – $100 prepaid bus pass valid on all CATA routes (except the Mall Bus), valid until January 31, 2025

Pass Plus – $25 pass which allows a discount fare of $0.50 each time the student rides a CATA bus (except the Mall Bus), valid until August 31, 2025

ONLINE: 

MAIL: Complete the form and enclose a check for $25 (Pass Plus), $100 (Semester Pass), or $200 (Annual Pass) made payable to CATM (Cape Ann Transit Management, Inc). Send it with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: CATM, 3R Pond Road, Gloucester, MA 01930.

Discounted passes may be available to income eligible families. If you think you qualify, request this discounted pass by providing proof of hardship with any of the following documents: 2023 Federal Income Tax Return, SSI letter of income, or Transitional Assistance letter of income. Proof of income must be made in writing to CATM, 3R Pond Road, Gloucester, MA 01930

There will be NO in office replacements or sales.

Tap Pass Forms can be printed out or picked up from the CATA Administration and Operations Center in Gloucester at 3 Pond Road. Customers can also request an application be mailed, faxed, or emailed.

Statewide Transportation Access Pass

The Statewide Transportation Access Pass program is a reduced-fare program for Massachusetts residents who have a disability and use the public transportation system. This pass allows you to pay a reduced fare in your local service area and use other transit authority services across the state at a reduced rate, including the MBTA.

Forms can be printed out from this HERE or picked up from the CATA Administration and Operations Center in Gloucester at 3 Pond Road. Customers can also request an application be mailed, faxed, or emailed.

Once you have completed the form, please call 978-283-1886 to schedule an appointment.
Completed applications cannot be emailed or faxed to the office. There is a $5 processing fee for new and renewal TAP passes. There is a $5 fee for replacement/lost cards. For additional information about the TAP pass, please call 978-283-1886.

Senior Charlie Cards

Seniors (60+) can apply for a senior Charlie Card at the CATA Operations Center in Gloucester. Senior Charlie Cards are valid for a reduced fare on CATA, the MBTA, and other transit authorities in Massachusetts. Please call 978-283-1886 to schedule an appointment. There is a $5 processing fee for new and renewal Senior Charlie Cards. There is a $5 fee for replacement/lost cards.

Other Eligibility Policies

Customers do not have to switch to TAP/Senior Charlie Cards for CATA reduced fares, Medicare and IDs will continue to be valid. TAP and Senior Charlie Cards are not valid for a reduced fare on CATA’s Dial-A-Ride or ADA Paratransit services
